Senior (LV/HV) Certified Electrical Technician Job at East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP)
Job Purpose
The Electrical Technician will support the Electrical Engineer for electrical maintenance activities and will be managed by the Site Operations Lead regarding site responsibilities within the assigned perimeter. Electrical Technicians based at the Marine Storage Terminal (MST) will be under the direct authority of the Maintenance Superintendent.
The role is responsible for electrical maintenance and inspection activities within assigned facilities and operational areas. Depending on the assigned perimeter, the Electrical Technician will be required to travel to remote sites. The technician will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical systems and equipment across EACOP facilities.
Equipment and Systems Maintained
- Pump packages driven by electric VFD motors up to 2 MW.
- Electrical control panels, MCCs, switchgears, PLCs, VFDs, MOVs, and circuit breakers.
- Diesel generators up to 4 MW.
- High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV) systems.
- Hydraulic systems including loading arms, gangways, and accumulators.
- Actuated valves up to 30-inch diameter.
- Building electrical wiring and lighting systems.
- Air compressors.
- Nitrogen generators.
- Fire heaters, heat exchangers, and electric heaters.
- UPS systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and solar power systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor daily operations and maintenance activities for standby generators, UPS systems, BESS, grid supply, and solar systems supporting crude oil pipeline facilities.
- Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting, and diagnosing complex electrical systems including MV and LV switchgear, VFDs, three-phase motors, AC and DC batteries, motor controls, and control circuits.
- Support execution of major maintenance activities on motors, diesel generators, circuit breakers, fuse boxes, and control relays.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities on electrical systems to maximize equipment efficiency and availability.
- Record maintenance activities and equipment anomalies in the CMMS work order system.
- Ensure electrical maintenance activities are carried out safely and effectively.
- Respond promptly to electrical system failures, emergencies, and operational upsets.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safe work practices in assigned work areas.
- Promote and implement company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with company safety rules, operating procedures, and industry best practices.
- Support implementation of annual electrical maintenance plans for MST and crude oil facilities.
- Carry out fault finding, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on plant equipment and systems.
- Recommend corrective actions to prevent equipment failures and downtime.
- Participate in routine, planned, and emergency maintenance campaigns within assigned operational areas.
- Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance reports.
- Support preparation of operating procedures and shutdown instructions.
- Contribute to HSE performance objectives and initiatives.
- Assist in preparation of work packs, permits to work, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Provide feedback on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve operational efficiency.
- Support implementation of annual maintenance plans for assigned facilities.
- Monitor spare parts and consumables stock levels and provide recommendations for replenishment.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Higher Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Recognized Electrical Certification License issued by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERA).
- Class B Electrical Permit is mandatory.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the Oil & Gas, Power Generation, or Mining industries.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with HV, MV, and power distribution systems.
- Hands-on experience with transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, generators, battery systems, and protection relays.
