Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) is a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the world’s largest Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) non-governmental organization. RHU’s core mandate is to champion and sustainably provide training, research evidence, and high-quality rights-based Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services, with a special focus on young people.
Job Purpose
The Medical Coordinator will coordinate the medical component of RHU’s Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programme and provide technical expertise and oversight for clinical services. The successful candidate will supervise, coordinate, and administer quality medical services across RHU clinics while ensuring compliance with procedures, regulations, standards, and organizational targets. The role also involves developing and updating clinical protocols, conducting training programmes, collaborating with healthcare professionals, analyzing clinical data, and incorporating research and innovations to improve clinical outcomes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise and oversight for clinical services, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices and sexual and reproductive health guidelines.
- Develop and manage clinic work plans and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health (MoH) and RHU technical standards, procedures, and guidelines.
- Conduct Training Needs Assessments and implement training programmes for clinical staff.
- Develop and update clinical protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, programme managers, and external partners to strengthen SRHR interventions.
- Establish and monitor quality assurance systems through regular clinical audits.
- Organize routine clinic performance reviews and monitor progress towards set targets.
- Analyze clinical data to identify trends, outcomes, and opportunities for service improvement.
- Stay updated on current research and innovations in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
- Promote patient safety, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives across RHU clinics.
- Support clinic pharmacy and laboratory teams in forecasting, quantifying, and requisitioning essential medical commodities.
- Ensure timely processing of insurance claims and payments for healthcare services rendered.
- Oversee compliance with standard operating procedures within insurance business operations.
- Conduct regular stakeholder engagement meetings to strengthen business relationships.
- Prepare and submit periodic clinic service reports to the Head of Clinical Services.
- Provide technical input to the Human Resource Unit to ensure adequate and competent staffing.
- Perform any other professional duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health services.
- Strong skills in training, quality improvement, supervision, communication, documentation, report writing, and feedback.
- Demonstrated leadership, administration, and team motivation skills.
- Ability to organize, multitask, and deliver quality results within deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and guiding multidisciplinary teams.
- Competence in programme management, strategic planning, clinical management, and quality assurance.
- Financial management, resource optimization, and sustainability planning skills.
- Ability to engage insurance companies and other stakeholders at management level.
- Marketing and stakeholder relationship management skills.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Public Health from a recognized institution.
- Valid practicing license and professional registration certificate.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Reproductive Health service delivery.
- Experience in project planning and management.
- Previous NGO experience implementing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programmes.
- Strong knowledge of current medical and clinical protocols and procedures.
