is a Private Not for Profit (PNFP) organization with its head offices at Nansana along Hoima Road,
and satellite offices in Hoima and Kalisizo in Kyotera District. AMBSO conducts a wide range of
activities of public health interest including clinical research, community-based health surveillance
research, programs for healthcare service delivery, and capacity building among healthcare and
community health workers.

In a bid to support AMBSO activities, we are seeking to recruit committed and reliable candidates
to execute clinical research duties on a full-time basis. Applications are therefore invited from
interested persons to fill the position below.

Medical Officer – Full Time (1 Position)

Location

AMBSO Offices, Kalisizo – Kyotera

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise study nurses, clinicians, and vaccination teams in their day-to-day activities.
  • Conduct patient evaluations including screening and assessment for eligibility.
  • Supervise and ensure accurate and proper completion of enrollment activities, including informed consenting procedures.
  • Supervise daily clinic operations including specimen collection, treatment of infections, and identification of different states of study interest such as pregnancy.
  • Facilitate and monitor follow-up schedules including auditing of case report forms.
  • Review clinical records to ensure completeness.
  • Review, classify, and make recommendations on all adverse events reported by the study team.
  • Ensure proper informed consent processes are conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), with participant understanding documented.
  • Communicate with the Study Supervisor and Principal Investigator (PI) to complete required actions for reporting and management of adverse events.
  • Communicate regularly with the senior research team and provide updates on the progress of the study.
  • Conduct and attend regular study clinical staff meetings.
  • Participate in staff training.
  • Maintain good communication between the study team and senior research team.
  • Participate in study monitoring visits, audits, and regulatory inspections, responding to queries as needed.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized university.
  • Full registration and annual practicing license with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council is mandatory.
  • Prior experience working in a clinical trial is desirable.
  • Evidence of training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP).
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, meet protocol deadlines, and maintain participant confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and work independently when required.
