Job Purpose
The Financial Assistant will provide essential clerical support to the Finance Department in Kampala. This temporary position will help bridge the staffing gap while ensuring continuity and timeliness in financial documentation and administrative tasks. The role is designed to meet urgent clerical needs for a period of 4 months.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Clerical Support: Assist in daily finance department clerical tasks including sorting, scanning, and filing financial documents.
- Returns Review: Support the review and preparation of monthly financial returns for submission and audit readiness.
- Vendor Management: Aid in retrieving vendor receipts, tracking missing documents, and conducting local vendor visits as needed.
- Document Organization: Ensure proper documentation, labelling, and archiving of all finance-related paperwork.
- Support During FO Absence: Provide local support to ensure finance tasks are uninterrupted during absence of any Field Finance Officers.
- General Administrative Tasks: Providing general administrative support to the finance team.
- Any other related duty assigned.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in accounting/finance or equivalent or Professional Accounting qualification
- At least 1 year Experience working in accounting (not-for-profit accounting preferred)
- Computer fluency; highly competent using Microsoft Excel and other MS applications
- Familiarity with computerized accounting systems
- Ability to gather facts and data, scrutinize with ease, determine a logical solution and resolve issues with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to handle challenging workload
- The highest level of integrity and commitment to prevent fraud
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all departments in the Regional
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel to the Country Offices for training, support and
- Experience working with colleagues based in complex country contexts would be an asset
- Local or international accounting qualification (completed or part-completed) desired
Working conditions
The Temporary Finance Assistant position is primarily an office-based role, involving work in a professional, urban office environment 95% of the time. The role entails working at a desk with computer-based tasks, including data entry, financial analysis, and report preparation using accounting software and Microsoft/Google Office applications. The position requires collaboration with various departments and may involve occasional travel to field offices for training or support, not exceeding 5% of the time.
Physical requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry light office materials, such as files or stationery, weighing up to 5 kg
Position Location
The role will be based in Kampala, Uganda.
We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of Ugandan employment visa at this time. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Uganda for roles based in Uganda.
