Welthungerhilfe (WHH), established in 1962, is one of Germany’s largest non-governmental aid and development organizations. Since 1986, WHH has been working in Uganda in collaboration with the Government of Uganda, local NGOs, and communities to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable populations. Our programs focus on enhancing Food and Nutrition Security, providing sustainable access to WASH services, and empowering youth and women across five regions of Uganda.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Cashier to join our team in Katakwi-Teso, Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and accountable handling of petty cash, adhering to WHH’s financial guidelines, and supporting the organization’s mission to create sustainable change in rural communities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties with Own Area of Responsibility:
- Manage cashboxes, ensuring proper disbursement and allocation of funds to relevant projects.
- Conduct regular cash reconciliations to ensure physical cash balances match cashbook records.
- Follow up on outstanding advances and ensure timely settlements.
- Monitor cashbox funds and inform management of replenishment needs.
- Facilitate currency exchange through reliable channels.
- Verify vouchers and supporting documents for accuracy, authenticity, and compliance.
- Assist in field payments and collect necessary supporting documentation.
- Register vouchers daily in the accounting software and prepare them for booking.
- Ensure timely payments for approved expenses and advances.
- Uphold WHH’s financial guidelines and procedures at all times.
Duties Without Own Area of Responsibility:
- Support audit preparations, both internal and with partners.
- Maintain proper filing of financial and administrative documents.
- Translate financial and administrative documents as needed.
- Scan and copy key financial records for documentation.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management, aligning with the role’s responsibilities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of professional experience in a similar role, preferably with international NGOs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work independently and in a multicultural team environment.
- High integrity, flexibility, and a proactive approach to work.
Nice-to-Have:
- Membership or student membership in professional bodies such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA.
- Experience working in rural or underserved communities.
