About the Role:
Are you ready to lead the transformation of energy solutions in healthcare? We are seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Engineer – Electrical and Solar Energy Systems to design and implement sustainable energy solutions across Uganda’s health facilities. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the seamless integration of solar energy systems, empowering communities with reliable and sustainable power while upholding the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning and Design:
• Conduct technical assessments of electrical infrastructure at health facilities.
• Determine optimal solar energy system configurations based on energy demand and site conditions.
• Develop detailed solar PV system designs, including wiring diagrams and installation specifications.
• Prepare tender documents for equipment procurement and installation services.
• Ensure compliance with electrical, health, safety, and environmental standards.
2. Project Implementation:
• Oversee solar energy system installations, ensuring quality and adherence to design.
• Provide technical support and guidance to contractors and installation teams.
• Conduct inspections, testing, and commissioning of completed systems.
• Develop and implement operations and maintenance (O&M) plans for solar systems.
• Maintain detailed project documentation, including design and installation records.
3. Project Management:
• Prepare and manage project schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor progress and performance, submitting regular reports to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with ministries, donors, contractors, and facility management to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
• Provide technical support to project staff and system end-users.
4. Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building:
• Engage with government authorities, donors, and community representatives to ensure project alignment and support.
• Represent the Ministry of Health in technical meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Conduct training and capacity-building activities for healthcare staff on solar systems and energy efficiency.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Supervise electrical installations and maintenance in health facilities as needed.
• Develop SOPs for managing solar energy systems.
• Monitor system performance, collect data, and prepare regular progress reports with actionable recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
o Full Form V/Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate.
o Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (specialization in renewable energy preferred).
o Any attained Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Experience:
o Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, particularly with renewable energy systems.
o Proven expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of solar PV systems.
• Technical Skills:
o Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia or equivalent.
o Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, and other relevant software applications.
o Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
