Job Title: Enrolled Midwife
Location: Kampala, Uganda

Purpose
To provide compassionate and professional antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, ensuring the health and well-being of mothers and newborns.

Role Overview
Midwives play a vital role in supporting women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. They work in diverse settings, including homes, clinics, hospitals, and maternity units, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals such as doctors, neonatal nurses, and social workers. Midwives may also supervise maternity support workers and mentor student midwives.

Key Responsibilities
Midwives provide holistic care to mothers and newborns, including:
• Antenatal Care:
o Examining and monitoring expectant mothers.
o Conducting antenatal care at clinics, hospitals, and homes.
o Carrying out screening tests and assessing care needs.
o Educating families on maternal and child health.
• Delivery Care:
o Assisting and supporting women during labour.
o Conducting safe deliveries while monitoring maternal and newborn health.
o Administering medications and intravenous infusions as needed.
o Managing complications and high-risk pregnancies.
• Postnatal Care:
o Advising and supporting parents in newborn care.
o Providing emotional support during challenging situations such as miscarriage or stillbirth.
o Offering family planning education and services.
• Administrative and Educational Duties:
o Maintaining accurate maternity records.
o Supervising maternity support workers and tutoring student midwives.

Qualifications
• Certificate in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
• Registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
• A valid practicing license.
• At least one year of experience in a maternity ward or related field.
