On behalf of our client in the manufacturing industry, we are seeking to recruit a skilled and experienced Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Officer to join their dynamic operations team in Kampala.
Job Summary
The EHS Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs that ensure a safe and compliant working environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of leading initiatives that enhance workplace safety and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities

EHS Program Development
-
Design, develop, and implement EHS programs including policies, procedures, and training modules.

Oversee hygiene monitoring, ergonomic evaluations, and ensure continuous improvement of safety practices.

Risk & Safety Management
-
Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses for all plant activities.

Investigate and report all incidents/accidents involving staff, contractors, and visitors.

Perform routine plant inspections and follow up on corrective actions.

Training & Inductions
-
Conduct safety inductions and routine drills for all employees and contractors.

Maintain and manage the annual safety training matrix.

Regulatory Compliance
-
Ensure full compliance with local occupational health and environmental laws and statutory requirements.

Maintain accurate records of all occupational safety, health, and hazardous material permits.

ISO Standards Implementation
-
Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 9001 (Quality Management System).

Collaboration & Reporting
-
Collaborate with HR on case management and employee safety issues.

Serve as the point of contact for EHS regulatory bodies and inspectors.

Perform any other duties as assigned by management in line with health and safety functions.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related field.
Desirable Certifications (Added Advantage):
-
Postgraduate Diploma in Health & Safety or related field.

Certifications in OSHA, ISO 14001/9001, First Aid, or Fire Safety.
Experience:
-
At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Key Competencies:

Strong technical knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

Skilled in risk assessment and incident investigation.

Effective trainer with excellent communication skills.

Problem-solver with high attention to detail.

Adaptable and capable of working in high-pressure environments.
