JOB DESCRIPTION – Coxswain

Department: Lake Operations  

Reports to: Coxswain Supervisor

Grade:   GW

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Coxswain is responsible for Driving the boat daily to deliver feed and transporting staff in a safe manner and carrying out all basic preventative maintenance on the boat and outboard.

KEY DUTIES

• Operate boat safely in line with the safety training given.
• Boats need to be driven carefully to protect the vessel and the outboard engine. NO ROUGH DRIVING.
• Understand the lake conditions and report to the supervisor if conditions are unsafe.
• Work in line with the company’s health and safety guidelines.
• Make sure boats are moored safely in the harbor.
• Carry out daily corrective/preventive maintenance on the boat (cleaning boats, checking oil and filling fuel).
• Report any faults on the boat to the supervisor immediately.
• At times be involved with periodic maintenance if required to do so.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor/Line Manager.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

• Uganda Certificate of Education
• Minimum 2 years boat driving experience
• Should have some practical skills (ropework and basic mechanical skills)
• Knowledge in Swimming and Rescue skills.

• Strong Analytical Skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to swim
