About the Role:
As the Coordinator – Economic Development Programs, you will take the lead in shaping and driving impactful agricultural and economic development programs in rural Uganda. This role is central to empowering local communities, transforming livelihoods, and creating sustainable economic growth. Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Empowerment:
• Oversee and support economic/savings groups, helping rural community members transition from poverty to self-reliance.
• Lead the establishment and operationalization of a microfinance institution that encourages savings and offers affordable loans.
• Design and implement livelihood programs that provide economic opportunities and alleviate poverty in the community.
2. Agricultural Management:
• Efficiently manage all ministry farms, ensuring they remain productive and sustainable.
• Develop and execute farm work plans, coordinating with casual workers to ensure smooth operations.
• Establish demonstration farms to promote improved farming methods and agricultural innovations.
• Lead food security initiatives and improve market access for farm produce.
3. Program Leadership and Supervision:
• Supervise and mentor teams within the Economic and Agriculture department, providing guidance and performance evaluations.
• Develop strategies to drive scalable, sustainable agricultural projects that promote economic development.
4. Financial Literacy & Capacity Building:
• Deliver financial literacy training to rural communities and empower them with skills for economic development.
• Utilize analytical skills to assess program impact, implementing improvements as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Education:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or a related field.
• Experience:
o 5-6 years of professional experience in humanitarian response, specifically in rural communities and economic development.
o Proven track record of managing agricultural and economic initiatives in a nonprofit or development agency setting.
• Skills:
o Strong analytical skills to assess program effectiveness and suggest improvements.
o Deep understanding of local and international economic and agricultural trends and challenges.
o Excellent planning, organizational, and reporting skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
