About Mental Health Uganda (MHU)

Mental Health Uganda (MHU) is an NGO established in 1997 and formally registered in 2001. It is the largest membership-based organization in Africa, advocating for people with mental health conditions. With over 25,000 members, MHU works towards equal access to services and opportunities for individuals with mental health conditions. MHU is currently implementing a Five-year project (2025-2029) aimed at improving human rights and access to inclusive healthcare and rehabilitation services for people with psychosocial disabilities across Uganda.

Job Summary

MHU seeks a Clinical Supervisor to support counselors working with individuals at risk or living with mental health conditions. The Clinical Supervisor will provide professional guidance and mental health support to counselors, preventing burnout and compassion fatigue, enhancing clinical skills, and promoting self-care practices. This role ensures counselors’ well-being and boosts the effectiveness of health and rehabilitation services for individuals with psychosocial disabilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Burnout Prevention: Implement support strategies for counselors to manage chronic stress and emotional exhaustion.
  • Compassion Fatigue Management: Provide emotional support to counselors who are exposed to clients’ trauma.
  • Promote Self-Care: Encourage counselors to prioritize physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
  • Supervision: Offer regular clinical supervision to improve counselors’ skills, knowledge, and professional confidence.
  • Social Support: Facilitate a supportive environment to help counselors cope with stress and enhance their well-being.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
  • At least 8 years of clinical experience working with individuals with mental health conditions.
  • Proven experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), especially in emergencies.
  • Strong leadership and clinical supervision expertise, with experience in program development.
  • Ability to train and build capacity for national staff and partners.
  • Knowledge of MHPSS integration into primary healthcare settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AI tools, and other relevant digital platforms.
