About the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC)
The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education and Sports. NCDC plays a crucial role in the development of curriculum and related materials for various educational levels, including Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary institutions. The Centre also organizes training courses for stakeholders on matters related to curriculum development and education.
Job Summary
We are looking for an Assistant Curriculum Specialist for Local Languages to assist in the development of curricula and educational materials focusing on Uganda’s indigenous languages, such as Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankole-Rukiga, and Runyoro-Rutooro. The successful candidate will support the creation of resources and teaching guidelines for these languages in the education system.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in curriculum development related to local languages (Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankole-Rukiga, Runyoro-Rutooro).
- Help in the production of teaching materials and resources in local languages.
- Collaborate with educators and curriculum experts to integrate local languages into the national curriculum.
- Provide insights into language-specific teaching methodologies and cultural relevance.
- Support training programs for teachers in the delivery of local language education.
- Research and update current trends in local language education and ensure curriculum relevance.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Bantu languages (e.g., Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankole-Rukiga, Runyoro-Rutooro) or an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in any of the local languages (Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankole-Rukiga, Runyoro-Rutooro) or as a curriculum developer in related fields.
- Age: 25 – 40 years.
- Strong communication skills in both written and spoken local languages.
- Knowledgeable about Bantu language education and curriculum design.
- Experience in educational material development is an added advantage.
